Description
Flexible long cannula with needle, wound around a drum and fixed in place by a plastic plate.

Method of use
Used to place a central venous catheter without entering the artery via the neck. Used when the patient cannot be placed in a 'head-down' position. The vein (usually the anti-cubital vein in the arm) is accessed by the needle and the catheter is threaded down the vein as it is unwound from the drum. The needle is pulled out of the vein and lies outside of the cannula at the proximal end.
