Method of use
Used for intra-vascular or intra-arterial access. A peripheral vessel is identified and the insertion site is cleaned. The needle is advanced into the vessel and flashback is observed in the hub chamber to confirm vascular access. Depending on hospital procedure, the needle may be held stationary whilst the cannula is advanced further into the vessel and off the needle. Vessel is occluded and the needle withdrawn and removed. The male luer plug is placed at the end of the indwelling cannula and pressure is released. Intravenous fluid may then be connected or a luer plug may be secured. If wings are supplied, they may be sutured or taped down. If wings are not supplied, then the hub of the cannula may be taped. When using for arterial access, labelling is recommended to prevent the accidental injection of drugs. Cannula may possess a switch to control blood flow when a giving set is changed.
