Set possesses flexible chamber containing a filter (40µm maximum) at the base. Some sets possess a vent adjacent to the chamber which can be opened to allow the administration of fluids from un-vented bottles. The tubing may also contain one or more Y-sites which provides a port or needle-free connector for the administration of intermittent medication.

- ITU
- General ward use
- Theatre
Method of use
The roller clamp is moved into a closed position and the fluid container is prepared for use. Using an aseptic technique, the sheath is removed and the spike inserted into the appropriate port of the container. The container is suspended and depending on the manufacturers instructions, the chamber is filled with fluid and the line primed. Usually the chamber is squeezed to allow fluid to flow through the chamber and to displace air upwards. Fluid flow is regulated using a roller clamp. The luer lock is either directly secured to an IV cannula or to an extension set. Designed to be used in conjunction with a secondary IV solution set (see relevant datacard).
