Tracheal suction catheter with multiple holes

Description
Transparent plastic catheter (usually PVC), usually either 50 or 60 cm in length. Catheter possesses a plastic vacuum control device at the proximal end. The distal end of the catheter possesses a terminal eye and at least 2 side eyes. The catheter is available in several Charriere sizes.

Method of use
A suction connecting tube and cannister are connected (see appropriate datacards) to a suction source. The end of the connecting tube is secured to the catheter. Foreign matter and pulmonary secretions are removed from the respiratory pathways by advancing the catheter into the oropharynx or trachea directly or through an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube. Suction is applied and the catheter is gently rotated whilst being withdrawn. Using a rocking thumb technique, suction is controlled using a vacuum control device on the catheter or a device attached to the connecting tube.
