Description
Transparent graduated plastic bag also known as a 'night bag'. The bag can contain up to 2L of liquid. One end of the plastic edging has holes and the bag possesses a piece of transparent flexible tubing with a connector (and usually with a sample port at one end). Some 2L drainage bags also possess a non-return valve to prevent the backflow of urine. The lower end possesses some type of drainage tap such as a lever-tap (sometimes known as a 'Flip-flo') attached to a connector, although some hospital bags are sealed at the bottom (i.e. non-drainable).Some non-drainable bags can be emptied from the top via a welded tear strip.

Method of use
Used as overnight reservoir for urine as it drains from patient. The bag is hung on the catheter stand (by its holes) and is either connected directly to the catheter (if the patient is bed-bound in hospital) or to the legbag via the dorsal connector. The legbag tap is then opened and the nightbag valve closed. A sample port is available at the top end of the tubing to take a sample by needle. Some have sampling ports for needle-free aspiration (such as needle-free connectors or ports for blunt needles) .
