At the April 2017 meeting, the AWMCDSG made recommendations on a prudent procurement approach to total hip replacement for the NHS in Wales, which follows NICE Guidance 304 (1.1) and represents the correct approach for the NHS in Wales. In addition to requiring Welsh surgeons to adopt ODEP rated 10A* prostheses for routine patients, the recommendations also required a review of the number of prostheses used, and included guidance on the use of ceramic components.
